Why masonry costs more

On drywall, the mount goes into the studs. On brick, concrete or stone, every hole is drilled into the masonry itself and the mount is held with anchors made for it. It is slower, dustier work, and we plan about an extra hour for it.

Brick face or mortar?

Where the anchors go matters. Solid brick and the mortar joints between bricks behave differently, and old, soft mortar is not something you want holding a TV. It is one of the first things to look at on a brick wall.

Solid stone or stone veneer?

Many newer fireplaces have a thin stone veneer over a framed wall, while older homes and cabins may have full masonry. They look similar from the front but are built very differently, which changes how the TV is mounted and how the wires can be run. If you know which you have, mention it in your quote.

The wires

With drywall there is room to run cables inside the wall. Solid masonry has none, so in-wall concealment depends on the wall. Our guide on drywall vs brick mounting explains the difference.

How much extra is it to mount a TV on brick or stone?

Brick or concrete is +$50 and stone is +$75, on top of the mounting price. Drywall is no extra.

Does it take longer?

Yes. We plan about an extra hour for brick, concrete or stone compared with drywall.

Can you hide the wires on a masonry wall?

Solid brick, concrete and stone have no hollow space to run cables through, so in-wall concealment depends on how the wall is built. Mention it in your quote notes and we will talk through the options.

What about a TV above a stone fireplace?

The surface sets the price: a stone fireplace surround is priced as stone (+$75), brick as brick (+$50). Before you choose that spot, read our guide on TV height, because above a fireplace is often higher than is comfortable.
